The “Paolo Giaccone” Polyclinic University Hospital of Palermo is a national-level, highly specialized hospital. Established by the decree of the Rector of the University of the Studies of Palermo on 1.04.1996, the “Paolo Giaccone” Polyclinic University Hospital contributes to pursue the institutional targets of the Faculty of Medicine, ensuring assistance processes suitable to the development of the didactic and research, consistent with the regional health policy.
This mission is pursued through an autonomous managerial strategy finalized to implement the maximum synergies with the University and to guarantee the economic balance through efficiency, efficacy and quality, thus developing the competitive advantage required to ensure a unique and essential contribution to the setting up of the scenario where training, scientific research and assistance activity integrate. AOUP activities include biomedical department of internal and specialist medicine; department of oncology, radiology, laboratory; emergency, neuroscience, surgery and organ transplant, internal medicine, cardiovascular and nephrourologic diseases, maternity and infancy department. AOUP has 20,420 inpatient admissions, 21,480 day cases, and 60,620 emergency cases annually. The structure is organized into 11 Departments, each sub-divided in complex or simple Units, and altogether currently employs 1,956 staff of multiple professions.
