The Malta Council for Science and Technology is the government body responsible for research policy, promoting scientific research, management of the local research funding programme and is the national contact point organisation for the EU Research Framework Programme (FP).
The Malta Council for Science and Technology was established by central government in 1988 and was given the specific mandate of advising government on Science and Technology policy. Today, its remit has developed and The Council’s tasks have expanded to include other tasks such as the responsibility for National Strategy in the field of Research and Innovation and the ownership of the National Strategic Plan 2007-2010, the responsibility for policy in the area of Research and Innovation, the management and administration of the National Research and Innovation Funding Programme and the responsibility as National Contact Organisation for creating awareness and providing support for EU’s Research and Development Framework Programme (FP7).
Apart from this, The Council is responsible for designing and setting up of the national Interactive Science Centre. This ERDF project will be contained within the Villa Bighi complex of buildings on the Malta Grand Harbour where MCST is housed.
